Onion Earache Remedies

November 25th, 2011

Commonly used in cooking, onions are useful in earache remedies also. It makes sense to always have some on hand, even if you don’t cook on a regular basis.

113 21 Onion Earache Remedies

Earaches are a common illness that occurs most frequently in children. It is important as a parent to know how to treat them and to have the necessary supplies on hand. Having a few onions available may save you a trip to the doctor and allow you to quickly alleviate the pain caused by the earache.

Cook an onion with its skin on by either steaming or baking. Once it has softened, it can be used one of two ways. The first is to mash it in a container. This will allow the juices to come out. You may want to add some water to help get the juices flowing. Use a dropper to extract some of the fluid from the container and then place a few drops in the affected ear. This should relieve the pain quickly as well as get rid of the earache.

The second method is to cut the onion in half and, once it has cooled to body temperature, place the onion cut side against the outside of the ear, much like you would hold a conch shell. Hold the onion in place for at least five and up to twenty minutes. Make sure the onion is not too hot, though.

Raw onion juice may be used as ear drops as well. However, these can burn. It is best to dilute the juice with something like olive oil before placing drops in the ear. A raw onion can also be broken up and made into a poultice. Simply make a paste from the juice, warm the concoction and place it in a cloth. Then hold the cloth against the affected ear. Repeat this remedy for earache as needed. If the problem does not go away after a day or two, then it’s time to call the doctor.

Onions are an invaluable item to keep in your pantry. Store them in a cool, dry place in a net or mesh bag to keep them from going bad too quickly. When someone gets an earache, you will be able to quickly treat it before it gets worse.

Being able to concoct earache remedies in your own home will help you avoid the hassle and expense of going to the doctor every time your child complains of ear pain.

Garlic Earache Remedies

November 10th, 2011

Garlic, long promoted as a protection against vampires, is also quite useful in making several earache remedies. It is inexpensive and something that you probably have at home already. Even if you don’t already have it, it’s very easy to obtain. It’s best used either raw or soaked in olive oil and can be very effective at treating the symptoms as well as the earache itself. Some of the remedies may seem a little strange, but they are well worth trying at least once.

113 20 Garlic Earache Remedies

There are a couple of remedies that use fresh garlic. Fresh garlic applied directly to the skin can burn, so be sure to brush the cut side with olive oil before placing it on the skin. A piece of fresh garlic can be placed on the outer ear but be sure not to put it inside the ear canal at all. Create a poultice from raw garlic by smashing it until the juices start to flow. Then make a paste from the juice and warm it. Transfer the warm paste to a cloth then apply the poultice to the affected ear.

Another option is to try making your own garlic oil. Crush a bulb of garlic into a small jar and then fill the jar with olive oil. Then let it sit for at least one hour before using. If you’re in a hurry, go ahead and use the oil after the hour. However, it’s best to let it infuse for at least a day. Any remaining oil can be refrigerated until needed. To use the garlic oil, warm a small amount to body temperature. Test it on the inside of your wrist to make sure that it is not too hot. Place two to three drops of oil into the affected ear, and then cover the ear with a cotton ball. Allow the oil to soak in for 15 to 20 minutes. This remedy can be used up to four times a day.

earache remedies that use garlic as the main ingredient are convenient and economical ways to treat an ear infection. Although somewhat strange, they are successful at relieving earaches and the pain associated with them. Garlic is easy to stock in your pantry and will keep a while in the correct storage conditions. And of course, if you don’t normally stock garlic, it is simple to go by the store and pick some up. All of these earache remedies are easy to make and may save you a trip to the doctor.

Using A Swimmers Ear Home Remedy

November 10th, 2011

If you are a fish or a turtle, then you probably don’t need a swimmers ear home remedy. However if you live in the pool in the summertime and bathe on a regular basis, then you just might. If you are not doing your best to rid your ears of excess moisture after being around a lot of water, then you will most likely develop swimmers ear. It can be painful, but it is both treatable and even preventable in a lot of situations.

113 19 Using A Swimmers Ear Home Remedy

Using ear drops after every shower or swim will help to get rid of excess water. The simplest home remedy for that is to mix rubbing alcohol and white vinegar in a 1:1 ratio. Put a few drops in one ear and cover with a cotton ball. You may want to tilt your head or lay on your side to allow the drops to absorb better. After a few minutes, switch sides and repeat. Keep the cotton balls in for a little while. They will help to catch and contain the drainage of earwax. Wearing earplugs while you play in the pool or take a shower will keep excess moisture from getting in to begin with. earwax buildup can occur with frequent earplug use, so be mindful of that.

Even without earplugs or ear drops, you can make a good effort to dry out your ears after they have been exposed to extra water. Using your towel to dry the ear thoroughly will keep any more water from running down and into the ear canal. A blow dryer, when used appropriately, can be effective in getting rid of water in the ear. Set it on the lowest possible setting and hold it at least 12 inches (approximately 25 cm) from the ear. The warm air will be able to get into the ear to dry it out but there will not be enough force to damage the ear canal.

One more remedy that will help in preventative measures is a homemade type of earplug. It doesn’t work in the pool, but is fine for the shower or bathtub. Coat one side of a cotton ball in petroleum jelly and place in the ear. Don’t push it down into the ear, but rather allow it to sit just barely inside the ear. The petroleum jelly will act as a seal to keep water out. If swimmers ear is a frequent problem for you, you may want to discuss your options with your doctor. You should try a swimmers ear home remedy first, though, and see if it helps lessen the number of times you end up with swimmers ear.

Making An Earache Home Remedy

November 9th, 2011

An earache home remedy is a simple concoction that can easily be created from items readily available. There are things in your medicine cabinet, bathroom, pantry and even your spice cabinet that will make a perfectly good remedy to cure an annoying earache. When your child is in a bad mood because his ear hurts, you will be glad that you can easily throw together a remedy and quickly rid him of the pain.

113 18 Making An Earache Home Remedy

Start with your medicine cabinet. A bit of ibuprofen or acetaminophen combined with ear drops or other remedy will help sooth the pain quickly while the drops tackle the cause. A hot water bottle makes an excellent compress, as does a non-electrical heating pad. Just make sure that the temperature is not too hot. A baby’s teething gel becomes a remedy for an earache when a couple of drops are placed on a cotton ball. Hydrogen peroxide, mouthwash, medicinal chest rub and tiger balm work the same way. You should have at least one of these items somewhere in your bathroom if not in your medicine cabinet. Mineral oil is another handy ingredient to have. Warm drops can be placed in the ear to treat an earache. Or they can be used to keep water out. Just use a few drops before swimming or bathing.

Grab the rubbing alcohol from the bathroom and make your way to the kitchen. Get out the white vinegar and mix a 50/50 combination of the two. These drops will help clear up an earache, ear infection or swimmers ear. They are safe to use after every dip in the pool or tub to keep future earaches at bay. A favorite kitchen ingredient in earache remedies is olive oil. By itself, it can be warmed and used as drops. You can mix it with cinnamon, fresh cut garlic or raw onion juice for effective ear drops. Brush it on a piece of a fresh garlic clove and place on the ear for a simple cure. Create a paste by crushing basil, tumeric, garlic, ginger or onions and warm it. When wrapped in a cloth, it becomes a poultice that can be applied to the outside of the ear. Onions can also be used in cooked form. Stick with steaming or baking and leave the skin on. One half of the onion can be held cut side against the affected ear for relief or the onion can be crushed and the juice used for drops. Either way, make sure it isn’t too hot.

Any of these remedies should help relieve the pain of an earache and cure the cause of it. Use hot soup and herbal teas for comfort food. Take vitamin C to help the immune system do battle with the earache. Try making a different earache home remedy each time until you find the one that works the best for you.

Looking For An Earache Home Remedy On The Road

November 5th, 2011

It may take a little more effort to locate an earache home remedy when you’re on the road. Of course, you may also be on a plane or a ship. The point is that an earache isn’t necessarily going to occur only when you’re at home and your medicine cabinet is readily available. You may have to put some work into locating an earache remedy while traveling if you haven’t planned ahead for the possibility. Some earache remedies involve food ingredients, which you will probably want to avoid packing. Others involve ingredients that you may have packed for another purpose, such as mouthwash and cotton balls.

113 17 Looking For An Earache Home Remedy On The Road

Ideally, you are traveling to visit a friend or family member. In that situation, you can simply raid their pantry and/or medicine cabinet to find the necessary ingredients. Worst case scenario here, they know where the nearest store is and can take you to pick up what you need. If you are traveling with a child who is grouchy because he is sick, you will be glad to easily cure what ails him. Even if you are not visiting someone but are traveling in the same country, you should find it fairly easy to locate what you need. You can ask the staff at the hotel or use the handy dandy GPS to locate a pharmacy or grocery store.

Traveling to a foreign county makes this situation a lot more interesting. With luck, you either speak enough of the language to communicate or you find someone who speaks your language. A lot of times, hotel staff is your best bet with this as well. If you know nothing of the language and can’t find someone to translate, well, you’re not in Kansas anymore. Being sick or dealing with a child who is sick in a foreign country will make for a very memorable vacation. Find the nearest pharmacy or grocery store and go on a treasure hunt. Brand names are often universal, so even if the instructions are unrecognizable, the product should look familiar. As a last resort, you can seek out a doctor or hospital. Sign language should help you out here. You may not understand exactly what the question is, but if you point at your ear and grimace, they should get the idea. This might work with the pharmacist as well.

Other situations, such as being on a plane or ship have their own circumstances. Both place heavy restrictions on what can be brought on board. Chewing gum on a plane will help to work out the pressure built up in your ears. It may not be feasible to use some remedies in these settings, but a small bottle of ear drops and some ibuprofen or acetaminophen may do the trick. When you are going to be traveling, know what ingredients for an earache home remedy you can take with you and don’t forget to pack them.

Keep An Ear Infection Home Remedy Handy

November 2nd, 2011

As a parent, it’s a good idea to have an ear infection home remedy available. Raising children, though rewarding, can be difficult and expensive. Using home remedies to treat some of the more common childhood illnesses can help you save a lot of money and time that would otherwise be spent on the doctor. Sometimes it is necessary to take your child to the doctor but not always. It is nice to know that sometimes you can whip up a quick remedy, heat some soup, pop in a movie and be done. Compared to several hours in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, surrounded by other children who are also sick, home remedies look better and better.

113 16 Keep An Ear Infection Home Remedy Handy

Even if you are not domestically inclined, you probably have many ear infection home remedy ingredients sitting in your cabinets and never knew it. If you have hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, teething gel, mouthwash and vinegar, then you have the makings of several home remedies. Of course, they probably fill other duties in your household but give them a try as home remedies the next time your child is sick with an ear infection. You will want to pat yourself on the back for avoiding the need to go to the doctor every time a child is sick.

Some of the remedies are very easy and require no more effort than putting a couple of drops on a cotton ball or cutting up fresh garlic and placing it in your child’s ear. Be warned, however, that the raw garlic will burn so you may want to coat it with olive oil first. Rubbing alcohol and white vinegar can take a break from their regular jobs and become a 50/50 solution that breaks down earwax buildup and dries excess water in the ear. The other ingredients listed become ear drops. Two drops of any one of them on a cotton ball will help cure an ear infection.

If these sound questionable to you, you can always talk it over with your doctor. There are many doctors that recommend home remedies for common childhood illnesses. They are most likely to do this if it is something that your child catches frequently. However, if you bring it up first, most doctors should be more than happy to go over the list with you and make suggestions. You can always try some of them on your own to see if they work as well. Either way, an ear infection home remedy will be very useful to have around.

Ear Candling for Earwax Buildup

July 13th, 2011

As people are learning more about healing themselves, they are seeking alternative remedies outside of their doctor’s office; one way that is being sought is ear candling for earwax buildup. Ear candling is increasing in popularity for a holistic remedy to getting rid of earwax buildup.

15a Ear Candling for Earwax Buildup

So what exactly is ear candling and how does it help earwax buildup?  Ear candling, is a holistic measure dating back to ancient Egypt that is said to remove earwax buildup and clear up other forms of ear debris. A special hollow candle, sometimes containing herbs and or essential oils to further promote healing, and usually labeled specifically for ear candling is used to candle the ear with. Next the person with the ear ailment lies down on the side opposite the afflicted ear. The person doing the ear candling lights the candle and places the candle into the ear, lit side up, this creates a vacuum. This vacuum is what draws the earwax buildup from the ear. As more wax is removed from the ear, the flame sometimes grows, and this is a sign that a deep cleansing and removal of earwax buildup is taking place.

Other things within the ear are also pulled out by the vacuum created by the candle, so if there is anything else in there that may have impacted the earwax buildup that will be pulled out. Also if there as infection such as candida that can be causing the earwax buildup, that will be relieved too. So all in all, as you can see there are many benefits to ear candling for earwax buildup.

So why is ear candling chosen over other methods of removing earwax buildup? Ear candling is chosen because ear candling can be done at home (even though this is not advised), is relatively less expensive compared to a visit to the doctor’s office plus the cost of medication, is not painful and can be used of persons of all ages.

Ear candling is also a preferred treatment, because it is said to remove very excessive earwax buildup as well as deeply impacted earwax buildup that may otherwise be hard to remove in a doctor’s office setting.

Ear candling sometimes also has an added benefit of clearing the sinuses. However with that said, ear candling is not recommended for those with a perforated ear drum or any other ear damage that is suffering from earwax buildup. Also remember that even though ear candling for earwax buildup is a rising method of home treatment, it is not meant to replace care if needed by your health care provider.
